Job Summary:

The Pathologist will diagnose presence and stage of diseases using laboratory techniques and patient specimens. He or she will also study the nature, cause, and development of diseases, and may perform autopsies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Plan and supervise the work of the pathology staff
  • Manage medical laboratories.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Examines microscopic samples to identify diseases or other abnormalities. Diagnoses diseases and studies medical conditions using techniques such as gross pathology, histology, cytology, cytopathology, clinical chemistry, immunology, flow cytometry, and molecular biology.
  • Identifies the etiology, pathogenesis, morphological change, and clinical significance of diseases. Writes pathology reports summarizing analyses, results, and conclusions.
  • Analyses and interprets results from tests such as microbial or parasite tests, urine analyses, hormonal assays, fine needle aspirations, and polymerase chain reactions. Communicates pathologic findings to surgeons or other physicians.
  • Reads literature, talks with peers, and participates in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in pathology.
  • Consults with physicians about ordering and interpreting tests or providing treatments.
  • Reviews cases by analyzing autopsies, laboratory findings, and case investigation reports.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and biology.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience:

MD/DNB/DCP required.

Extensive experience and skill in the field of pathology required
